De Zonnegloed, an animal sanctuary (rather than a true zoo as they themselves state) is located in a small back street in the tiny town of Oostvleteren (part of the community of Vleteren) in the province of West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. It is as rural as it gets around there, as it is almost completely surrounded by cow pastures.
