True, it is not what I had envisioned when the capital campaign proclaimed there would be a new entrance with native wildlife displays to build excitement for what lies inside.
Still, the entrance overall is pleasing to look at and functional, and a small live animal exhibit like this is better than none.
I agree, it is certainly better than nothing. But from the perspective of the average guest, I don't necessarily feel that the new entrance was much of a net gain.
On a side note, this exhibit could be improved with species choice. I think a pair of Harris's Hawks would be a more fitting greeting, but I guess since there are TWO other North American vulture exhibits at the zoo, perhaps this IS "building excitement for what lies inside".
