This animal escaped its aviary by walking past by a very young keeper entering the aviary. I'm not going to blame him or the zoo as this kind of human error can happen and (and I've had it with a few chickens myself).
The animal chose to perch on the back wall of the banded mongoose exhibit which is definitely not safe, and so the young keeper was keeping visitors away from the area to prevent the bird from getting spooked and landing in the exhibit and possibly becoming a mongoose snack. Later on the bird did leave this area and luckily it was caught and returned to its aviary a few hours later. I have to give them credit for handeling the escape situations well.
I did however notice that many of the aviaries at Best only have a single access door directly connected to the outside, rather than a double set of safety doors or another access that doesn't directly connect to the outside, as is quite commonly seen at other zoos. That does make it easier for this kind of thing to happen.
