Eurasian brown bears (Ursus arctos arctos), 2022-09-15

It's amazing to see a number of European zoos (Pairi Daiza, Cabarceno, Ouwehands, Scandinavian Wildlife Park, many others), with a half-dozen or more Brown Bears all living together. I always marvel at how they are taken care of in terms of feeding times, or how a particular bear is separated for veterinary treatment. It's probably quite tricky taking care of so many bears in a single large enclosure, and some zoos even throw in wolves as well!

@snowleopard Pairi Daiza has 11 Eurasian brown bears to my knowledge, 9 of which are in this image. What I have seen with regards to feeding is that they throw a lot of food into the exhibit in a spread out pattern so all the bears get food and spread out a little, which might help cut down on aggression. I don't really know about the management otherwise, but I don't expect it to ever really be easy with large predators. I do remember seeing in a TV series about Pairi Daiza that they separated the bears in the holding areas into several groups based on where they came from or are related.

The mix with wolves, which does exist at Pairi Daiza, is now known to be a questionable one, and although it so far has worked here, I don't think it should be tried anew anymore, and discontinued where possible.
