@snowleopard Maybe there is a little bit more behind the door but not much so I guess that's pretty much it. I don't know how much time they (Best has two lynxes) spend in there and whether it is truly 17 hours per day, but it is pretty grim. Then again, the entire lynx exhibit at Best is, especially when compared to some of the lynx exhibits I've seen.
When I was at the zoo I saw keepers letting the Eurasian Lynx, Serval and Ring-tailed Lemurs out of their indoor holding, but I'm not sure if that is a daily occurrence. It seems that there is a strong possibility that those three species each spend 17 hours per day locked in very tiny boxes.
I'm not sure at what time of the day you visited, but that might still just have been for cleaning purposes. Given that these animals have completely enclosed outdoor housing, I really hope they don't have to spend all night cooped up inside, even asleep (and medium-sized cats are often active during dusk and dawn and at night).
I didn't personally find the ring-tailed lemur indoor housing at Best all that tiny, but it was still not very large and pretty dark.
BestZoo does have quite an interesting collection, but in terms of exhibits it is pretty far down on my list of zoos and was a low point in 2019 in that respect.
With BestZoo expected to expand and have new exhibits in the coming years, I really hope they don't forget to renovate some of their old stuff ASAP.
