This rather appealing looking canid species is seldom held in European collections; to my knowledge it is some decades since the last time it was held in the UK, and as such I had never seen a Golden Jackal until my visit to Magdeburg.
These individuals were held in one of a number of secluded, wooded enclosures in one corner of the zoo which were focused on native European species - one of the highlights of the collection as a whole.
