This particular one had a couple of the more common species (though that's not to say boring), namely Himalayan Monal and Red-billed Blue Magpie. Most of the enclosures had one pheasant species and one small to medium sized cold climate bird, often a laughingthrush species.
1. It's a really nice area;
2. There's already plenty enough of bench's in the zoo to sit down and eat (usually facing an enclosure);
3. If they're going to have a picnic area why put it tucked away in a corner when it'd be better in a more central position (then again, that'd probably cause something else nice to be destroyed). Grrrr!
Be a bit more careful, because you cannot say that for sure. Just because it does not appear anymore in the vision for 2030 and this area and a large part is named "picknickwiese" does not mean it will disappear. Only very little enclosures are marked on this map. And even it would potentially disappear it will probably be many years from now, as there are other areas that really need attention: dickhauterhaus, Alfred-Brehm haus etc.
Have a bit more faith in this new director, as he has actually done quite a good job so far and none of the horror scenarios written on several zoo forums have become truth....
