The two enclosures are adjacent and the 0:2 Amur Tigers are elderly sisters who share this enclosure.
The other enclosure is home to a young pair of Sumatran Tigers (Surya, born at Paignton in 2009 and Bawa, born at Wildlife Hertiage foundation in 2009)
The plan is;
- When the Amur's die the Sumatran's can have their own area for example; If in time Surya bred then she and her cubs could have their own area and Bawa could have the Amur area so both Sumatrans could be on-show.
That's okay. I'm about to post a couple more from last year, plus a few other non-Tiger ones. I've just dug out an old scrapbook of press cuttings with a feature on the Siberians from the "Yorkshire Post" of 5th February 1996 (this was in the wake of John Aspinall's court case over keepers entering cages). It says the Tigers arrived at Flamingo Land in November 1994. In true F L form their names in the article are given as "Sharon" and "Tracy" with a mention of "Birds of a Feather", just as when there was an article on the Andean Condors (now at Lotherton) they became "Homer" and "Marge" instaed of "Connie" and "Barbarella".

thats a shame. most zoo's are going out of amur tiger! this was at one time a big cat house, with one side housing lions, and the other side housing the Siberian Tiger
