False gharial

Count those teeth! Crocodile Swamp, Paignton, 10th January 2014.
Without a single doubt the best photo of the Paignton animal anyone has managed to get so far; it has obviously settled in very well over the past year!

Here is wishing … chuck the salties … and bring in 1 or more Tomistomas.
Wonderful and magnificent species!

End result: two sets of quite endangered croc species with breeding potential!

Any idea if SOME / ALL the Cuban crocs are true rhombifer or hybrids?

All the Cuban Crocodiles at Paignton are the hybrid stock which has a large dash of American Crocodile in its lineage.

It is about time the EEP got serious about weeding out the hybrids and starting all over with the few pure-bred Cuban crocodiles - the species is almost CR endangered - so that makes sense.

TOO MANY of the current population are known hybrids!

Actually Paignton already has moved on the hybrid Cubans, and now the Cubans they have left are pure!!The 2 Hybrids were sent to Wingham where I sqaw them both a couple of years ago when I last visited Wingham, but since that visit at least 1 of them has died!
