The Night Hunters building was built in 1952 for the opening of the new Carnivora Building that was torn down. Part of the this building was also the Small Mammals house. In 1985, the Cat House opened featuring the largest collection of small cats in the world. In November of 2010, it closed and was turned into a Nocturnal building for predatory animals. The building consists of 22 animals with two outdoor exhibits, including one that opened on August 14 2011, showcasing cougars that will be part of the Cat Canyon expansion.
In my 2008 review I was absolutely scathing in my verbal abuse towards the Cat House, the Nocturnal House and the Reptile House at Cincinnati Zoo, as I felt that all three structures were packed with very small, clearly inadequate exhibits. However, from photos and mini-reviews on ZooChat it seems as if Night Hunters (the renovated Cat House) is still for the most part awful. The lynx enclosure in this photo is something that would only be appropriate more than 30 years ago. What a shame!
From the photos I've seen of night hunters I think I have to agree with Snowleopard. The owl exhibit seems to be a box with one concrete branch to sit on and the concrete climbing structures extend in to most of the other exhibits.
For what feels like a year, this lynx has been off exhibit, with that said, the zoo has added a new small tree (similar to the one here) and multiple vertical logs were added, making it appear that it once held a primate. If I had to guess, it will one day hold another small mammal but I wouldn't be surprised if they placed the Fossa out here.
