No, until & if the zoo gets new territory.
Now: nowhere to move the bears, no money to renovate, no space to expand, and no successful breeding with that female (hand-raised ones are terrible mothers)
Believe me, you will have no success.
1)Our zoo is in EARAZA and their officials don't complain.
2)In Russia it is legal to keep bears in even worse conditions. That's why animal circuses and travelling menageries still exist here (and they also have polar bears, so try to save those ones first!)
In that case I well get in touch with Born Free and the Daily Mail, and see what they think if I can fit that its also this enclosure fault that Diana is dead, then you don't stand a chance
I know at least 4 bear enclosures in Czech zoos/tourist attractions that are smaller or on par with this one and still in use. This doesn´t make this pit better, just puts it into perspective.
Actually, Bojnice (Slovakia) has two brown bear pits, roughly equal this exhibit, with around 8-10 bears. And because most bears don´t go along, each uses the pit for maybe 1-2 hour a day. Rest of the time, they are locked in miniature concrete underground boxes. It is not directly zoo´s foult. Slovak goverment designed the zoo as the only place where rescued orphaned wild bear cubs can be sent. On average 1 cub is brought there each year. The zoo can´t refuse it, it is prohibited to euthanase it too. And practically nobody in Europe wants brown bears. So, they are accumulating in Bojnice. If someody wants to help bears in need, find a new place for some of them.
