Such a jewel! I hope the owner of the Dallas World Aquarium will permit me to go back and photograph his four. I wonder if their captive population will extend much more- as it stands we have three facilities and at least one captive breeder for this species, but only two have produced offspring to my knowledge.

Lovely photo, estimado Vogel.
Actually, Zoomat in Chiapas continued to have great success in breeding the resplendent quetzals. Also El Nido private aviary in estado de Mexico has bred them, but out of Mexico the captive born quetzals have not done so well. Now with the pair sent to Xcaret, i do believe that the policy of the mexican enviromental authorities will be to totally restrict all export of the species to other countries, somewhat similar to the policy towards volcano rabbits, which have only been exported once in the last 15 years.

I do not understand this move by Mexico's government. There is a pair exhibiting nesting behavior at the Dallas World Aquarium, and it is because of the DWA that ZooMAT is having this success. Does Mexico fail to understand that other countries can help with conservation?
