This place certainly isn't slowing down as it seems every few months there is a major exhibit that is opened to the public. According to Wikipedia the zoo has 260 acres (110 hectares) at its disposal and if that is true there will be many more expansions in the future. I toured a couple of zoos in the state of Wisconsin this past summer (Tanganyika Wildlife Park and Timbavati W.P.) that had both been built from scratch since around 2006, but neither of those zoos has seen such an accelerated construction time-line in comparison to Yorkshire. No wonder the British zoo ranks highly on the popularity list that has been ongoing for weeks on this site.
Its a vast improvement on their last Hunting dog enclosure,as that was just a rectangular area of grass with a couple of dens made from railway sleepers. The woodland area is a nice touch and along with the lake, dens and sand areas offers lots of different enrichment. (Pity there isn't a raised path in the woods for un-obscured views for photography but I just hope they spend most of their time around the lake and dens.)
A polar bear wouldn't get their leg in a hunting dog den, and how would they get them from one enclosure to the other.? I certainly wouldn't want to be holding the lead as they walked Victor from his enclosure to this one.
