Fire-belly newt (Hypselotriton orientalis 'orientalis') - Private facility

An subspecies was described in 2012, hypselotriton orientalis qianshan, separated from the nominate by the Yangtze. Despite of that, some still consider this species as monotypic due to the lack of significant morphological differences between the two proposed subspecies. If recognized, the subspecies of most of the newts found in captivity are potentially the more widespread nominate.
