If so it looks like a South American pike characin in the family Ctenoluciidae, perhaps Ctenolucius hujeta which is pretty commonly kept and known as silver gar, gar characin, rocket gar, hujeta gar and freshwater barracuda. I'm not sure on the exact id though, it could be a different species.
