Fish Market -- Chatuchak Weekend Market, Jan 2014

oh brilliant! I just googled it and you are absolutely correct. This is the same unidentified fish I saw at the Shanghai Aquarium (but a really big individual) and said in my review that it was like a paraya (I spelled it wrong which hampered my image searches at the time!) but without the fangs. I thought all the big adults would have massive fangs but instead it had two little fangs like these small individuals do.

So when I saw these small ones I knew they were the same as the big one I'd seen at Shanghai but thought they couldn't be payara because what I'd seen at Shanghai didn't match payara .... if that makes any sense at all?

I'm quite enthusiastic about the Fish Market! :D

Makes perfect sense. :)

The biggest payara specimens I've seen were at Siam Ocean World.

I was very impressed by the range of species available at the market, many of which would have been the highlight of an aquarium's collection, and quite a few of them were new to me.

lots were new to me (lots of them I didn't even know what they were beyond general IDs). I think if I lived in Bangkok I would end up with a very large collection of aquariums again!
