Flat-headed cat

Rotterdam Zoo had 2 specimens in the 1980-ties.
Found some additional information about the Flat-headed cats at Rotterdam Zoo. The species was kept between 1971 and 1984 and already during 1972 the first was/were born. Between 1972 and 1977 regulary births took place but only one was raised completely, died however quite young.
I must have somewhere more information but am unable to find it right now....

If they bred that readily back then, one wonders how well they would do these days with the (I would hope) improved husbandry increasing the chances of offspring surviving.

looks like they went all out with the habitat simulation there! Is this pretty much the whole cage or does it just look bad in the photo?

This was in the period Rotterdam was collecting ( rare ) animals like stamps ! In every little space avaible, animals were placed. I remenber I alswas had to look through the windows of every small building / construction ( some like garden-sheds which were not for public view ) to look if new animals were placed in it as kind of quarantaine !
The Flat-headed cats ( and loads of other small cats species where housed in a row of small cages in front of the Riviera hall ( now there are Kangaroos if I'm right ).

Yeah the last cat housed in these cages were servals which got moved to the savannah when it was opened. Now there are agile wallabies in a paddock in front of the building.

It's quite a shame Rotterdam's cat collection isn't what it used to be, during my first visit they had golden cats and rusty spotted cats but nowadays they only have amur leopards, sumatran tigers, asiatic lions, fishing cats, pallas cats and servals left.

I remember the Small Cat House , full of rare species . At this time there were also lots of small tiger pens , the indoor housing being little more than a large kennel . They bred lots of tigers though !
