The cheetahs died in September 2018. GaiaZoo has said they can't re-acquire cheetahs at the moment, so their African wild dogs will be moving to the former cheetah exhibit, because their exhibit will be replaced by a large greater flamingo aviary.
@ZooBinh I'd they that they're not that far apart in size, but that the former cheetah exhibit is probably a bit smaller though. That said I still think it would be more than okay for the African painted dog pack.
@KevinB nice to know. From your images, the dog exhibit looked better than the cheetah exhibit, so I was sorta wondering why they did not plan to make the cheetah exhibit a large aviary.
@ZooBinh Well I guess that given the size of the flamingo group they are acquiring from Walsrode, they need the larger space of the wild dog exhibit for it (even if it doesn't seem to be to be that much larger).
Also I don't think the former cheetah exhibit looks bad at all, but I agree the soon to be transformed wild dog exhibit looked even better.
@ZooBinh The press releases and media articles have mentioned around 400. GaiaZoo is acquiring the entire flock from Walsrode, where they don't have enough space for them anymore.
@ZooBinh Yeah it's going to be quite an impressive sight - and I imagine at least potentially pretty noisy, too.
Unfortunately I missed the flamingos due to avian influenza prevention measures when I visited Walsrode over a decade ago, so I'm hoping to see them somewhere this year much closer to home at GaiaZoo.
