Now it houses a new Mercedes car.
Do they have plans to modify this yard for some other species or will it eventually all be torn down?

According to Jana the pavilion of large mammals will become an Amazonia exhibit with jaguars, manatees and more! Which sounds fantastic in my book! :D

Well that answers part of the question I just asked Jana on another photo. It sounds like a brilliant idea for that pavilion.

Near that building are a outdoor enclosures for Chilean & Caribbean Flamingoes,Spider & Squirrel Monkeys, Brazilian Tapir and Capybara, among other non-South American species, which would tie in nicely to a large South American exhibit area. Also nearby is the Pavilion of Penguins, which holds Humboldt Penguins and crested ducks, creating potential for an extension from Amazonia to the Andean coast (which could be expanded to include the fur seals, if the African species was exchanged for South American).

The former elephant cow pen (with the car) will get a transparent roof and turns into a lush green part of the new Amazonia. The whole old house will be completelly reconstructed, also all the old aviaries between pinguins and this house will be demolished and turned into SAmerican exhibits.

There are some new planned species for this area. The manatees, jaguars, harpy eagles, howlers, black caimans, giant otters, tamanduas just to mention some. Also the SA species from the upper zoo part will move here (oncillas, tayras, bushdogs, vicunjas, pekaris, nandu, mara, tapir...).

It sounds awesome Jana, I will have to come and see it when its done!

I hope the Harpy Eagles (where will they come from?) get a large aviary, I saw one at Berlin Tierpark in a very low aviary, and felt bad for it.

From the plans I saw, the aviary unfortunatelly won´t be very large, not comparable with the giant vulture aviary. Prague tries to get harpy eagles from Brazil, from a breeding program, rescue center or a similar captive holding.
