During the 80's (when I visited the zoo on a few occasions), there were several 'plazas' as they were called scattered around the zoo. Six or eight of them I think. They were roughly circular structures, with public viewing from the centre and the cages around the outside of the circle. They generally held small mammals and birds.
@Hix: I believe that there are over 20 of those "plazas", or C-shaped exhibits. Some of them are one full enclosure, while others are divided into either two or three separate enclosures. There is everything from jaguars to siamangs in those constructions, which were built decades ago (the 1960's?). I have never seen another zoo with such unique creations, and I personally am not a fan of them at all.
