Taken before the zoo was created 1928
Brilliant set of photo's here Adrian!

I find it incredibly weird to imagine the castle without the zoo surrounding it

I would like to thank Solocatman for they're help and the photograph's still trying to sort many more out

So looking at this shot, they chopped down all of the trees, but as the zoo now stands either they re-planted or offshoots grew into new trees.

Other photographs I have seen show that there were hardly any trees around the zoo when it opened a good example is the photograph of the Polar Bear Pit if you look at the back there are hardly any trees but now that area is covered in trees and shrubs.
Before being a zoo this was a general park run by the council and I presume a large area was cleared for the general public to play and eat in.
