Another rare visitor. These guys are usually found only as far north as the Gulf of Mexico, so to see this many in Fort Worth was quite unusual.

Very interesting. The unusually warm weather is allowing these birds to move north. They are frequent near Tampico, Tamulipas, Mexico and other warm border areas. I wonder if there will ever be cold winters again in texas that will interrupt these patterns of movement.

These ducks were only here for a day or two. As for cold winters, two winters ago we had the coldest winter on record (or at least the coldest single spell) in years.

Texas; the vagrant capital (well, maybe not). You get some really neat birds down there, I think this species was reported for Kansas once. What is you Texas list at jbnbsn99?

Surprisingly low for the year. ~160. I didn't start until the end of March though, so I missed all the Winter birds, and didn't know enough for the Spring migration. I haven't gotten a new bird in over a month, but that's summer for you. This part of Texas certainly isn't a vagrant capital. Brownsville definitely is though, but I'm closer to you in KC, than i am to the Valley.

I just enjoyed a look through all your photos, some VERY nice stuff in there. Six life birds for me. Maybe not as good as the Rio Grande, you have some really good birds in your area. Spoonbills, glossy ibis, and black-bellied whistling ducks are tough to find in Kansas.

Thanks much KC. I have a lead on 300-400 Wood Storks, but I think I am going to pass on them. There are in an alligator/feral hog/wild dog/drug dealer/copperhead/semi-automatic/hacker-jacker infested swamp. Even the experienced birders know when to pass.

What is a "hacker-jacker"?

Do the alligators ever eat the drug dealers? That would be a useful ecosystem service that they could provide.

"Hacker-jacker" is a reference to the Hunger Games books.
