Whilst Madeira is a great place to get away from the awful British weather in terms of sunshine and warmth , good food and drink , amazing scenery and wonderful flora , it does not have a lot for the Zoo enthusiast .
The small aquarium features local marine species in about a dozen tanks , none large . It is well presented , if not exciting , as usual labels are not comprehensive .
Elswhere in the museum are taxidermy specimens of birds , fish , cetaceans and a very big Mediterranean monk seal .
