Gayal; Heidelberg; 3rd September 2010

I\'ve never seen a gayal with horns like this before....

He's a real beauty - we got the feeling the sheer mass of those horns was causing him some slight trouble though - his head was always held low.

Great set of horns, Gaur hold their head low like that too it's just the way these giant cattle are

I've never seen one as low as this one though - don't think he even got his head as high as this picture while we were watching. Lovely looking beast though.

I tend to agree with ‘Maguari’ over this issue. This specimen almost always held his head down very low whenever I saw it; I had to wait a long time until it raised his head as high as in this photograph.
