Gazelle Paddock at Berlin Zoo, 31/08/11

A sizeable chunk of the centre of the zoo is given over to deer paddocks, with a number of these small, attractive stable blocks. Although this is part of that area, the deer have here given way to Persian (Goitered) Gazelles.

This looks like someone's house and front yard, not an animal exhibit.

Maybe Hansel and Gretel hang out here? On the plus side at least this hoofstock paddock has grass, as many of Berlin's other paddocks are sand-based.

It's just representative, as are all the deer houses, of rustic German/Central European architecture. And it's rather attractive.

I like it. I wouldn't design a zoo like this today but I do like this old-style European zoo architecture and it has character.
