From certain angles this is a pretty zoo. I hope that they can build a new tiger exhibit and start upgrading some of their junky older exhibits in the near future. The red panda exhibit is a good start, but they have a lot of work to do to modernize the zoo still.
They have an extensive turtle conservation program going on behind the scenes apparently. They could build a world-class turtle exhibit complex in the space that they have.
@DavidBrown I've thought about that too. It'd be cool to see such a small zoo focus more on Madagascar (as they have been) and chelonians since they are a focus for them off-show.
Do you think the zoo is large enough to expend space on a new tiger exhibit? I have my doubts personally, but I'm open to other perspectives.
@Coelacanth18 In a prior master plan they had tiger, spectacled bear, pigmy hippos, okapi, gibbons, and a whole Madagascar complex and native California complex crammed into this space. I don't think all of that would likely fit. They would need a large chunk of their space for tigers, but they could probably make that work. On their website several years ago they had a conceptual drawing of a tiger exhibit.
@DavidBrown Yeah that sounds like way too much for that space. I could see a solid trio of Madagascar, California native, and a couple more Asian exhibits to complement the red pandas being a good fit for the footprint.
