It is one of the oddest things at Planckendael, but nonetheless a quirky thing that I appreciate.

Yeah I see now how you could see a guineafowl in it too. But given its location in the Australian zone it is nonetheless a cassowary.
Also, this thing has been there since Planckendael's Australian area first opened in 1998, so I guess it was made with the means available at the time. Also Planckendael was quite a different place back then - aside from Indian rhinos they didn't have true megafauna at the time (no elephants, no giraffes), the now sadly closed Asian greenhouse didn't yet exist and Planckendael was a relatively traditional animal park housing mostly hoofstock and birds in paddocks, aviaries and open pens.
