According to the American Museum of Natural History's Vertebrate Zoology Collections Database, there are 32 specimens of Giant eland in their collection, and all of them except one specimen belong to the Eastern subspecies, Taurotragus derbianus gigas.

The "odd ball" specimen in question is not identified at subspecific level, however it was collected in the Central African Republic.
