Giant Girdled Lizard - Wichita Reptarium

Smaug giganteus. July 3, 2024
@SusScrofa
This was a nice little place located inside an exotic pet shop with a five-dollar fee to get in. The halls are kept dark and the place has a jungle/temple ruin theme to it. Each hall is continent-themed, with one dedicated to inverts. There are four halls total and a smaller room. The exhibits were all very nice, with many floor-to-ceiling exhibits and several lush tanks with live plants.

The species selection is mostly very basic, with petshop-type reptiles and various morphs of different common species. There were a few rarities, such as this girdled lizard.

The one problem I had with this place was the lack of signage. Each tank only had the common and binomial names of its inhabitants printed out on the glass, with no educational signage to be found anywhere.

I spent about half an hour in here and had a great time overall, plus I had the whole place to myself! I definitely recommend any zoo enthusiast take a look if they are passing through the Wichita area.
