The giant otter exhibit is the 2007 new of the Bioparc de Doué la Fontaine (France).
The enclosure is 600 m² large (With 40 % of water filtred by aquatic plants) and is the reconstitution of a south-american river, the biotop of the otters.
The terrestrial part is enhanced with rocks, differents substrats and tropical plants. The pair of giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) is arrived the 10th of July :
Diego, born in december 2004 in Dortmund (Germany) and Yacuna, born in 2002 in Cali (Colombia).
It was the first time a pair of otters of this specie arrived in the country.
Pierre Gay, the director's Zoo, has a great conservation-philosophy and support an in-situ conservation programm in Colombia, in collaboration with the Cali's Zoo.
At the beginning of the month of august, in 2009, three babies (Unfortunely only two survived) were born !
