Giant panda, Tian Bao

Paddock opposite Himalayan bears, Cambron Abbey, Pairi Daiza, 23rd October 2019
Ailuropoda melanoleuca. 3 year old male. Pandas never waste energy - if you survive by eating bamboo, lying down as you eat makes sense :)
I nearly got a better photo of his father, but just when I got him into focus as he finished a late lunch, I was shoulder-charged by a middle-aged lady. In view of the presence of a bear, I turned to give her a hard stare, and the panda retired to his den.

@Pertinax This guy was hiding behind a pile of bamboo, in the middle of his enclosure. I had to shoot through a gap in the live bamboo screen around the side of the exhibit. Of course the female and her two new cubs were off-show when I visited.
