Giants of the Galapagos exhibit photos

Giants of the Galapagos

As part of their Darwin 200 celebrations, ZSL London Zoo has opened its latest exhibit, called Giants of the Galapagos. The new exhibit is next to the Komodo Dragon House, the outdoor enclosure for the tortoise is the previous Lowland Anoa paddock. The inhabitants are 1.2 Galapagos Tortoise (male Dirk, and females Dolly and Dolores).

Photos:

1. Entrance (view from next to the Reptile House).
2. General view of the outdoor enclosure (note the distribution map on the glass panel): smaller slopes, scattered rocks and two watering holes.
3. Galapagos Tortoise House with interactive zone.
4. Visitor path between the outdoor and indoor enclosure.
5. General view of the indoor enclosure: the pool is located next to the glass-panelled section, in front of the visitors.
6. Indoor exhibit: a series of roof top windows allow natural light into the house.

The exhibit looks great...It would be cool if Harriet was still alive for the celebrations.

Some new pictures ...

1. Visitors and keepers watching the females in the outdoor enclosure.
2. Photography.
3-4. Clicker training in process.

I didn't think tortoises were clever enough for clicker training. It seems I have underestimated them.
