Goldhead Egg-eater (Altolamprologus compressiceps 'Kasanga')

Tanganyika. 15/12/2024. Unsigned.
An aquarium favourite of mine that I have personally raised and bred. Most of the "Goldhead" form of A. compressiceps found in Singapore's ornamental trade are of the locality that originates from Kasanga, a town in Tanzania. So-called "Muzi" sold locally, unless acquired from a reliable dealer or breeder, are often Kasanga.

The local common names sometimes assigned to these cichlids is "Egg-eater." One may also find some old-school shops selling them as 金蓑鮋屬, which roughly translates to "Golden Lion Fish" (Mandarin speakers, please correct me if I am wrong).

At least two pairs were spotted in the exhibit, one pair was very hard at work clearing out a shell that the female was ready to deposit her eggs in, right by the front of the glass!

Happy to see some photographs from you posted here, plus the massive amount of information in the comments here

Happy to learn something a little extra about an animal group I barely know about
