@Wyman I realize that, but what I meant was in terms of a walking trail to the new area. I'm well aware of what the new California Trail is, but I was curious to know if visitors can choose either a gondola ride OR a walking trail to reach the new zone.
@snowleopard Ahh, simple misunderstanding. My apologies. It looks like there is a path from the parking lot to the expansion, according to the map. The map and therefore I could be right or wrong.
No there is no alternate way up. It is the gondola or nothing (though why anyone would not want to take the gondola is beyond understanding). It would be a very long and steep walk if you had to take a path by foot. I suppose if you had a valid handicap that prevented you from using the gondola then you could contact the zoo to arrange to be taken up by vehicle, but that would be a special circumstance.
