Also called the Arabian Wildcat, the exact taxonomic status of this taxon is somewhat debated; some recognise it as a distinct taxon, others as a natural intergrade where the populations of F. s. libyca, F. s. silvestris and F. s. ornata meet, and yet others as a synonym for F. s. libyca.
