Do the gorillas kick back with beers to watch their local sports teams? Just joking, as this indoor viewing area certainly looks quite spectacular as is obviously designed for a different species of ape.

It really is a great viewing area. There is usually a volunteer in there that tells people about the gorillas. Some volunteers have been there over 20 years so they know our gorillas! It is pretty plus. It was completely redesigned when the exhibit was closed due to our unfortunate gorilla incident.

What "unfortunate gorilla incident?"

When one of the gorillas escaped a few years back and injured a few visitors. The gorilla was shot dead by the police I think.

We had one escape in 2004 or 2004. Who knew a silverback could jump 15 ft? Whole exhibit was shut down for over a year for remodeling.

I know where I'll be relaxing, during breaks between exhibits, when I visit Dallas Zoo.
