Personally I feel they should create a bachelor group in a Howletts-style cage in the East Africa Reserve and put a smaller primate species on the island, such as Siamang, Mandrill or Drill.
My gut feeling is that Nico will be Longleat's last gorilla. I agree with Mr Dalek in that I expect some smaller primate species to replace them on the island.
Mine too. I don't think they would be allocated any by the EEP. Nico & Samba came from a Swiss circus- Longleat have not been able to obtain Gorillas through the normal(EEP)channels in the past and I doubt they will in future.
Nico's unusually 'white' colouration is partly due to his age- though he has always been very silvery coloured and has just turned even whiter as he has got older.
I think Mandrills would make a good exhibit on that island.
Which very few zoos seem to do. In the UK Colchester have about 23, and Chester & Trotters about 15 each, but these groups could expand much more as they can occur in enormous groups(hundreds strong!!)- called 'Hordes' in the wild.
