Gouldian Finches and Diamond Firetails, 19th June 2014

They are fine. I enjoy your Finch photos...;)

These mutation Gouldians are rather startling, aren't they. Not sure if I like them or not.

Ugh! Why does anybody breed mutations that are so much less attractive than the wild type?

Because they're different, and there are people that like different. And some people will pay lots for different.

Thank-you. They are startling, I think I described them as garish on the day. Generally speaking I prefer normal specimens, although at Filey I do take photos of the mutation parakeets (and post some here!). I was fond of Filey's late, lamented blue Ringneck too.

some mutations do look nice (I like blue and lutino ringnecks for example) but most do not compare well at all to the natural colouration.

In this photo the diamond finches look lovely, while the Gouldians look hideous.
