Greater Roadrunner / Hamerton / 22-1-25

Geococcyx californianus
I live where Greater Roadrunners are native, and it's interesting to watch them in the winter. They will fluff up in a sunny spot out of the wind and then raise their feathers to expose their black skin. I assume that's to absorb the sun's light waves and heat. They are magnificent birds (except when they're hunting your lizards or stalking small songbirds at your feeder!).
