Greenshank (probably)

it is one of the waders (a Tringa or somesuch). It appears to have yellowy or greeny legs. I haven't got any African wader books on me, so can't help otherwise.

As Chlidonias says, it's a wader. It could be a Ruff, or a Wood, Green or Marsh Sandpiper (although the bill doesn't seem right for the last one).

Do you have any other photos?

I was thinking greenshank but I didn't know if they were found there. I just looked at a list of Tanzanian birds and they are on there. Are they likely or rare?

.......Black-winged Stilt?

I get the inpression any Paleartctic wader can turn up in Africa, looks like a Greenshank to me.

Greenshanks are found there too, but the bill in the photo looks shorter than that for a greenshank which is why I didn't mention it.

I'm not sure that this shows anything more than the original picture but here is more of a frontal view.

Based on the waders in my field guides I'm fairly certain it's a sandpiper, just not sure which. The beak looks longer in this picture than the other so I'm happy to concede it could be a greenshank. However in all my books these birds should have darker grey markings on the head and chest.

Have to say, looks like a Greenshank to me as well.
