Pygathrix cinerea

Sadly, also Critically endangered, with the population estimated at 500-700 and decreasing.

The Centre also has Red-shanked and Black-shanked Doucs - the Black-shanked are not visible to non-staff due to extreme nervousness and the Red-shanked are seen only at a distance.

I don't recall ever seeing a douc, maybe at Twycross but I'm unsure as to when they left the collection in correspondence to my early visits. Therefore I'm extremely jealous of you Maguari... :D
Thanks for sharing these photo's of an institute (and primates) I've only ever read about and seen on tv, I always enjoy your descriptions that accompany them as well! :D

Thanks - glad you're enjoying them (albeit jealously!).

I don't know if you know the back story but my trip to Vietnam was originally to a different national park altogether but as no accommodation was available it got changed to Cuc Phuong (much to my total lack of disappointment!). I suspect that in fact we may have seen a little more actual wildlife at the original place as we would have been in the forest a little more but that's speculation.

(The wildlife at Cuc Phuong was plenty impressive enough in any case, and, of course, the primate and turtle centres and the wild Delacour's Langurs (none of which we could have seen if we'd been at the other location) more than compensated!)

Add to all that the fact that in the organisational stages of flight booking I ended up with a day in Saigon for zoo time that I probably wouldn't have got otherwise and the trip ended up much more zoo-y than it the initial plan (when I would probably only have done Hanoi Zoo)!

I was surprised that it turned into a 2 zoo trip, glad it's gonna bulk up the gallery! :D
Also glad your plans changed for the better! :D What were your opinions of the zoos? Or am I gonna have to wait for the photo's....? :p
