Nearly 15 years after visiting Woodland Park Zoo and gazing upon this magnificent habitat, it still looks like Yellowstone to me. Which I visited as a 13 year old back in 1968. Ageless design.
So snowleopard, how did you manage to survive in the wilderness knowing that two grizzly bears were tracking you down? Your heart was probably racing like crazy but you still managed to somehow get close enough to take a photo of the beasts while being in the line of danger.

The exhibit opened in 1994 and nearly 20 years later it is still probably one of the best all-around Grizzly/Brown Bear zoo habitats anywhere. There are other zoos that have created lush, dense forests for their bears but at WPZ there is also a cave area with fantastic underwater viewing of the bruins. Perhaps this was the first zoo in the world with such that feature? Minnesota Zoo's amazing Russia's Grizzly Coast comes the closest in the U.S.A. by combining top-notch visitor amenities with a terrific experience for the bears.
