Despite what the key says, a majority of the exhibits haven't been built.

Looks like it'll be pretty good...Do you know how long range this plan will be?

I don't know for sure, but if they keep expanding at the rate they're going, 6 years is a reasonable estimate.

:)

The only thing I think that they won't have in say 7 years is the orangutans.

They could feasibly get one of the hybrid pairs going around, if the Sumatran program goes well.

I think it has the potential to be an excellent small zoo. Don't really like the layout though - and they could be maximising their space better too. Why not combine the giraffe, rhino, zebra and ostrich paddocks into a single exhibit that could be the centrepiece of the zoo? They don't appear to have huge amounts of land to work with, so keeping what appears to be a fairly strict one-mammal-per-exhibit layout is a bit strange.

Barbary sheep and dromedary, water buffalo and blackbuck could also be mixed exhibits. I also really dislike the finish being with domestic species - horses, pigs and guinea pigs. After orangutans, lions, giraffes and rhinos, a stronger finale than a few farm/pet animals could be hoped for.

I can confirm that their intention is to get hybrid orangs from either Melbourne or Taronga Zoo.

:)

They really are developing rapidly. The only real concern is the lack of a big, drawcard species or two.

When can we expect to see lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and orang-utans at Halls Gap?

Exotic mammals they plan to acquire this year are zebra, giraffe, serval and tree-kangaroo.

They list rhinos for acquistion in 2011, lions for 2011+ and orangs for 2012+.

:)
