Hamadryas Baboon Enclosure

Animal Lifestyles- Hamadryas Baboon Enclosure. April 19, 2013. Not as big as I thought it was based on pictures but still a very large exhibit with more than enough space for this small troop. The exhibit extends a lot further to the right and a bit to the left. There are a total of three viewing windows.

What species used to be in this enclosure? Is it an old bear grotto?

It is purpose built for baboons during the zoos more than 30 million dollar renovation in the late 1980's. These are currently the largest animals in the zoos collection.

What about the California Sea Lions and Emus? Both were larger IMO.

They are all about the same size maybe a little larger than the baboons but my point was there are none of the most popular and larger species are shown at the zoo. There are no lions, bears, giraffe, apes, elephants... you get the point. This is why this is my favorite of the 3 smaller zoos because it focuses on only smaller species and even with the addition of leopards it will not have any off the ABC animals (maybe sea lions).

Hamadryas Baboon (male)- 31 inches long, and weighing from 44-60 pounds
California Sea Lion (female, as I believe the zoo's sea lions are all female)- 5.9 feet long, and weighing in at approximately 220 pounds
Emu (female)- approximately 61.7 inches long, and approximately 81 pounds
A little larger?;)
