I visited Knoxville Zoo in 2008 and remember the zoo well, including such highlights as the red panda exhibits and divisive black bear enclosure. There's been a lot of new stuff built since then, but some of the primate exhibits (baboons - new, gorillas & chimps - old) have very basic wooden climbing structures and it all looks a little bleak in terms of a cold weather visit. The elephant exhibit is obviously outdated, but at least the zoo has been progressive when it comes to reptiles, amphibians and the new tiger/primate complex. I will be intrigued to learn what you think of the new habitats for herps.
@snowleopard The new herp complex was the whole impetus of my visit and I will cover it in full detail later today. As for the rest of the zoo (besides the Asian area), it was mostly a letdown compared to other zoos I've visited recently. Fortunately, I went on the one day it was over 60 degrees Fahrenheit so it wasn't a cold weather visit.
