I saw one as a small child in the 1960s off the coast of Rhyl/Colwyn Bay/Llandudno. Not sure where exactly.

They're not too uncommon around Wales - this was the first time I'd seen them from shore though.

In the Netherlands I live near a place where you can see them almost daily from the shore. I've been there about 20 times and saw them at at least 15 times ! It's near Zierikzee and the population in this area is about 18 animals.

I was talking to someone from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust the other week who said there are good numbers off the Yorkshire coast. I have not seen a live one since 1995 when I saw two off Scarborough as I walked around the headland. A few days later I saw a Pilot Whale near Scarborough harbour (it made the local press). I have seen a few Porpoises washed up on Bridlington beach since then. Apparently there was one a couple of days before I was talking to the YWT person.

P.S. I never use the "H" word!!!!!!!!

The one that ends in 'arbour'? I never use it for seals, but I do for porpoises.

Well at least part of that statement gets my seal of approval.

P.S. (again) When I was a child I used to daydream about keeping a Porpoise in a pool at the end of the garden.
