One fabulous thing about the zoo is the number of cool animals in the collection, which makes the facility a must-see for any zoo enthusiast. All of these species are rarely exhibited in American zoos, and yet Gladys Porter has all of them on display: Red-Handed Tamarin, Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle, Red Brocket Deer, Bornean Bearded Pig, Harnessed Bushbuck, Jentink’s Duiker, Angolan Colobus Monkey, Rio Grande Siren Salamander, Cuban Crocodile, Mindoro Crocodile, Saltwater Crocodile, Gaur, Bontebok, Pygmy Hippo, Pileated Gibbon, Przewalski’s Wild Horse, Bettong, Sable Antelope and Arabian Oryx.

Yes and of course the harnessed bushbuck and jentinks duiker are the real gems. Last jentinks duiker known to exist in captivity anywhere on the planet, so hardcore antelope enthusiasts should get to Brownsville ASAP (as he is quite old).

Several others that you list can be seen here in Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix Zoo has red brocket deer and arabian oryx. Wildlife World Zoo also has arabian oryx, plus kemps ridley turtle, saltwater crocodile, sable antelope, red handed tamarin. Saltwater crocodile (and perhaps one or two of the other crocs you mention) can also be seen at the Phoenix Herpetological Society.

Of course at Brownsville you can see all these in one facility. But Phoenix is easier to get to than Brownsville (unless you happen to live in South Texas).
