Heck's macaques (Macaca hecki) at Nantu Reserve, northern Sulawesi

Never heard of this species before, thanks for introducing it!

Interesting how the macaques on Sulawesi have all evolved to have dark/black fur.

I know most of them look very similiar to me.

was it just the two you saw here?

no there were a whole bunch of them but they were mostly out of sight of the camera from where the hide was positioned. This was the best photo I could manage.

All the Sulawesi macaques actually look very different to one another, except the black crested and Gorontalo macaques where the main difference is the colour of the bottom. The other species have different colour patterns (eg, on the limbs), different "hair styles" and even different facial structures.

neat a whole bunch of monkeys in a forest. Only bunch of monkeys I've ever seen other than in a zoo was around a town carrying cigars... literally!
