Hill City AquaZoo - Agile Wallaby (Notamacropus agilis)

08/09/2025 - Credit to Austin the Sengi for helping ID this species.
Need help IDing this Wallaby. Individual was housed by itself in one of 2 side-by-side enclosures (the other had 3 wallabies). Signage does not specify species.

iNaturalist's automated ID system suggests Agile Wallaby (Notamacropus agilis), which Zootierliste lists them as having. But ZTL also lists them as having Red-necked Wallaby (Notamacropus rufogriseus), and I was having trouble telling them apart.

@Astrotom3000 does Hill City AquaZoo still have many inappropriate animal exhibits and do they still push visitors to engage in interactions that are overly stressful for the animals?

It seems like nothings changed from when this was a SeaQuest.

@Austin the Sengi thank you for the ID!

@SusScrofa They do heavily advertise and emphasize interactions with animals, particularly in the first area with the Capybara, Iguanas, and Toucans, as well as this one room with tortoises, tegus, and lizards (which feels like it's set up specifically for animal interactions). Additionally, their interaction sessions appear to be scheduled to occur rather frequently. I frequently saw keepers walking around with animals. They don't have any touch tanks, which I thought was bizarre given the nature of this facility. Also, apparently, you can only sit down and not walk around in the budgie aviary (the only bird exhibit that even approaches serviceable). They also have dispensers scattered throughout the aquarium section where you can use tokens to purchase feed for the fish.

As for exhibits, yeah, there are definitely some absolutely shoddy exhibits here, including having Capybaras, Wallabies, and domestic pigs all indoors, which is pure INSANITY. And this is inside a mall, so you can imagine just how cramped these exhibits are. Some of the tortoise/lizard "pens" were pretty small, and even a small child can easily gain access to them (in fact, I have to wonder how the lizards even stay in there). Their bird exhibits are just plain awful, with parrots-on-a-stick in their gift shop right up against the incredibly noisy and echo-y mall corridor. Their fish tanks are actually not all that bad (aside from their Black Pacu tank maybe being overcrowded; this was the only consistently positive thing about this facility), but their mammal, reptile, and bird exhibits are definitely barely above roadside tier at best.

Their signage is just god awful, hence why I even had to ask for an ID. Many species are just straight up unsigned (especially their fish), and a considerable number of animals they even bothered TO sign are only signed at the genus/family level. I think I owe SeaLife New Jersey an apology...

Had it not been for the Kinkajou, I would have probably left this facility after just one pass. This just might be the "shadiest" place I have ever visited.
