Himalayan Highlands- Snow Leopard Exhibit #3

November 3rd, 2012: Don't worry, leopard exhibit #2 will come soon! My only complaint about Himalayan Highlands is that it is too small, and with only 4 animal species, it's hard to get really into the theme of the exhibit. Also, one of the leopard exhibits is really small.

4 species? It has Snow Leopards, Red Pandas, and White-Naped Cranes- how is that 4 species? Did they add another?

One of the leopard exhibits is small, but a snow leopard isn't going to spend all its time there. I definitely think this is a fantastic exhibit and one of my personal favorites. Partially because I am a snow leopard fan, but also because its a great immersive design. Did you happen to venture over to the Central Park Zoo? The snow leopard exhibit there is equally fantastic.

I visited CPZ about two and a half years ago. Their Snow Leopard habitats were also wonderful, and there are plenty of spaces for the cats to hide both in Himalayan Highlands and in Central Park. Roger Williams Park Zoo also has a good exhibit, with climbing oppurtunities, lots of plantings, and shade. It's not as good as the WCS Snow Leopard exhibits are, but it is pretty good.

I loved the Snow Leopards exhibits at CPZ. I went about two months ago and the cats definetly used the vegetation and hilly design of the exhibit to hide. The first one is pretty forested and the animal hide very quickly with onyl a glimpse by me before disappearing without a trace. The animal in the second exhibit was more active and ran passed us (the guests and I) a few times and showed off some of the species' jumping abilities before, too, running off and disappearing.

I like RWPZ's exhibit. It's pretty well designed the it took us a while to find one of the cats which was resting in an upper ledge next to the trail. Bronx definetly has one of the best. I can't wait to get out to Cincinnati and see if there new exhibit is any good.
